Actually, there are six lakes in Sub-district of Kotawaringin Lama. But, there is still one exist lake, it is MASORAIAN Lake. Exactly, it is located in sub-district of Kotawaringin Lama, Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. It still has good ecosystem. There are still wild orangutans, kinds of monkeys and birds such as hornbill, king fisher, etc. Because there are many fishes in this lake, the local people demand their daily life to find fish there. It can fulfil their daily need. They catch the fish here traditionally, so its preservation is still kept. This lake can be reached by wooden small boat.
The tour in this lake can be done at least 2 days. What will you do there?
At your arrival, you will be welcomed by traditional dance and self-defense art of local people. You will also join with them to catch the fish traditionally in the lake by bubu (made of bamboo), pengilar (made of nylon), and net fishing and canoeing there. Besides that, you can also see the making sugar palm and dried fish. There are some schools here, you can visit one of them. It’s the happiness of them if there is a foreigner come to visit them.
The food we will serve to you is of course local food. I called it traditional jungle food, because what they cook is got from their jungle. Of course, it is very very different with your daily food.
Day 1. Airport – Kumai – Tanjung Harapan – Proboscis Monkey – Boat
We will pick you up at the airport as soon as you arrive. Then we will take you to Kumai, where the boat and crews are waiting. It takes 20 minutes only. Going into the boat and then the tour is started. We will go along the Seikonyer River. It takes 2 hours to reach the first station of Tanjung Putting area. Along the way, we will see some animals such as proboscis monkeys, long tail monkey, birds, and if we are lucky, we will see wild orangutan. The cook will serve local food for lunch on the way. After passing 2 hours, we arrive in the first station, TANJUNG HARAPAN. We will walk into the forest and then see orangutan feeding at 3 p.m. After seeing orangutan feeding, we will go back to the boat and continue the trip to see Begantan (long nose monkey) along the river. And then we will find the comfort place to stop the boat for having candle light dinner and stay overnight.
Day 2. Boat – Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey – Boat
After morning breakfast on the boat, we will continue the trip to the second station, PONDOK TANGGUI. Here, we will see orangutan feeding again at 9 a.m. It is not too far from the boat park. After seeing orangutan feeding, we go back to the boat and continue to CAMP LEAKEY, the first station. Lunch will be served on the way while seeing some animals on the first day, and if we are lucky, we will see crocodile. Arriving at CAMP LEAKEY, we will go directly to information center. After that we walk into the forest to see orangutan feeding again at 2 p.m. After seeing orangutan feeding, we go back to the boat to take a rest, having shower, and then candle light dinner. And then for staying overnight, it depends on the return flight. If it is in the morning, we will boating down to nipah (a place where there are so many colonies of fireflies such as Christmas tree) and then stay overnight there. But if the flight is in the afternoon, we will stay overnight in CAMP LEAKEY or PONDOK AMBUNG (a place where we can do night walk).
Day 3. Boat – Pesalat – Kumai – Kotawaringin Lama – Inn
After morning breakfast on the boat, we will continue the trip to PESALAT. It is reforestation place, we can adopt and plant the seeds there. There are many traditional jungle medicine plants. We can reach PESALAT through 800 meters small bridge of bush. From PESALAT, we will go directly to Kumai. Lunch will be served on the boat. Arriving at Kumai, we will go directly to Kotawaringin lama by car. It needs one a half hours to get there. Arriving at Kotawaringn lama, we will drop you at “bangsal” (old palace) and then you will be welcomed by traditional dance. After that, you can take shower and dinner (traditional local food). And then you can take a rest while enjoying the next traditional dance, they feel happy if you can join with them dancing together. After that we will bring you to the inn to stay overnight.
Day 4. Inn – Masoraian Lake – Pangkalan Bun – Hotel
After morning breakfast at inn, we will go directly to MASORAIAN LAKE. It takes for about 30 minutes by wooden small boat. Here, we will see the very beautiful lake with wonderful scenery, the fisherman’s activities, and trekking. After trekking, lunch will be served here, in the lake. After lunch, we will go back to the village to see the local people make palm sugar and dried fish. After all, we go back to Pangkalan Bun and drop you to hotel you have choosed before. And the next morning, taxi will take you at the hotel and drop you at the airport. TOUR END
